Neighbourhood issues

Council does not have the authority to deal with all neighbourhood disputes. Information on common neighbourhood issues is outlined below.

Nuisance and wandering dogs

Pets can cause serious distress to neighbours and other residents through excessive barking, straying, attacking or biting.

If you would like to report a continuing barking dog nuisance, please contact Council's Customer Service Centre on (07) 5420 8200.

A Local Law Officer will then contact you within 14 days to commence an investigation into the problem. The investigation may entail collecting evidence to establish if a nuisance exists.

To view Council’s Local Law 4 (Animal Control) visit the Local Government and Planning website.

Find out your responsibilities as a dog owner and what you can do to improve the situation.

Overgrown land

Council encourages the owners of vacant land to clear long grass, weeds and undergrowth on a regular basis.

Council can provide a list of local clearing contractors is available to assist land owners.

Council often serves notices on land owners to clear their properties if they are overgrown.

Failure to comply will result in Council clearing the land. Charges will apply in this instance.
