About Caloundra

One of the most attractive local government areas in Australia, Caloundra City is strategically placed within an hour’s drive of Brisbane and is the gateway to the Sunshine Coast.

It is the second largest municipality by area (1107-square-kilometres) on the Sunshine Coast.

With its enviable location in the State’s south-east corner, Caloundra City has retained the relaxed lifestyle that complements its natural environment which includes some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia and a picturesque hinterland. Residents and visitors are attracted to the geographically diverse nature of the area.

Caloundra City lays claim to 10 of Queensland’s most popular patrolled beaches as well as beautiful rainforests and numerous botanical, environmental and national parks.

It also boasts attractions including Australia Zoo, Aussie World and the Ettamogah Pub.

The number of people choosing to live in Caloundra City and the age and mix of the population affects many aspects of City life including the demand for services such as libraries, parks, recreation, heritage and cultural facilities and essential services such as roads, water supply, solid waste and wastewater management.

Caloundra City is one of 125 local government authorities in Queensland.

According to the Draft Caloundra City Local Growth Management Strategy (LGMS) projections, by 2026 Caloundra City will have an estimated resident population of 162,500. From 2004 to 2026 this will require 34,750 new dwellings.
