Council laws and regulations
Council's Local Laws and Subordinate Local Laws regulate various activities throughout the City.
To view Council’s local laws visit the Local Government and Planning website.
Under the Local Government Act 1993, local governments have two main roles:
(a) a local law making role; and
(b) an executive role, which includes:
(i) a policy-making role;
(ii) an administrative role; and
(iii) a local law enforcement role.
Council’s suite of Local Laws consist of 12 Local Laws and 20 Subordinate Local Laws.
A Local Law is a law about a matter within the jurisdiction of the local government. A Subordinate Local Law is a law made by a local government about a matter that a Local Law expressly provides.
Following is a list of Council’s Local Laws and Subordinate Local Laws, which are available to view on the Local Government and Planning website.

Council employs a team of Local Laws officers to enforce legislation, thereby protecting the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors. The following programs apply:
- Animal management
- Local Laws; and
- Regulated parking
The programs also provide an emergency ‘call-out’ service where a concern is of a serious nature and requires urgent attention, for example livestock on the road or a dangerous dog attack.
For emergency call-outs, contact Council on (07) 5420 8200.
